The files you can access from this site provide the user with a stamp by stamp correlation between the major catalogues (but not all) published around the world: PRC, JPS, Scott, Yang, and Gibbons. If you are like me, you are interested in the stamps issued during the period of conflict between what was to become the People's Republic of China and "others" that stood in their way. Certainly one of the major events of the 20th Century. My problem is that the Scott catalogue, the one most Americans use, is pretty much inadequate for this undertaking. So I have had to branch out. I first tried working on this correlation back in the mid to late 1980's, and even went to the trouble of making about fifty paper copies and mailing them to other collectors around the globe for corrections and comments before undertaking a serious look at publishing for the benefit of all. I also talked with past officers of the China Stamp Society and tried to make contact with Scott Publishing. Unfortunately, except for a small handful of collectors, all to no avail. Fortunately for us all, both the Chinese and the Japanese have published the results of some very serious research work they have undertaken for this period. With the publication of the catalogue by Mr. Meiso Mizuhara of the JPS in 1988, and then the publication of a catalogue for the LAS period by the PRC later that same year, an explosion of information was made available. Unfortunately, neither of those catalogues has received widespread distribution in the US and Europe. And further, niether has been updated that I know of. I would strongly suggest that serious students/collectors of this area get one of each. Of course, there is also the Michele catalogue, and I am sure others, but my patience, eyes, and time can only stretch so far. There is more, much more, and I apologize to all for my limitations. The internet provides a powerful tool, so I am taking advantage of this technology to make the benefit of my labors available to those of you out there who are interested. I would simply ask that anyone who links to this listing notify me (archie.mckee@hotmail.com) so I can also send updates if there should be changes. I also would of course appreciate credit where due. There will be brickbats, that I know, and those if deserved are also welcome. They are often the source of improvements. I have a great amount of respect for the compilers of lists and their proofreaders. There are errors within, but with your cooperation, perhaps they can be reduced to an absolute minimum. At the bottom of the listing will be provided a date, and perhaps a listing of recent corrections and the date of that correction. Please understand this is a work in progress. I do have to say that in going back over this material since I first compiled it, I have been quite upset at my errors. In several places there were way too many, in other places there were none. I have completely re-cehecked the listing and tried to improve the accuracy. But as I said above, there will still be errors. I do not pose as an expert. Those of us in the "rest of the world", outside the Middle Kingdom of China, have an uphill battle to be experts. There is so much to learn, so many cultural and historical factors that we will never be exposed to. But we can have fun with our hobby while appreciating the tremendous sacrifices that literally millions of Chinese, both inside China and without, endured while trying to bring their country into the modern age. A process which continues to this day. I would be more than willing to correspond with those of you who are interested in this fascinating area of history and philately. But please remember that even though now retired from full time work I have limited time and limited resources. Time is valuable. Besides, like many stamp collectors I know, I am often temporarily disorganized and slow in responding. But I will try. There will be additions to this listing. I have the data, but have to put it into useable form, so the other LAS areas will follow. Have patience with my efforts please. We will begin with Soviet Era, Central China and Southwest China LAS. Enjoy. Last edited and uploaded August, 2010.
